(More customer reviews)I've been playing with the Black Beauties exclusively for about 4 years.I used Hi-beams before that (which are also great, but not quite the same caliber).I believe that DR makes the best bass strings out there.I've tried everything: Rotosound, Dean Markley, Labella, Elixir...the list goes on but none compare to the BBs.They last forever and have an awesome crisp sound that makes for good, beefy and clear lows, and pronounced singing highs.I use them on my Warwick Thumb and am a customer for life.

(More customer reviews)These are some really great strings if you like playig funk or you just want to sound like Flea. They're great for the lows and sound clear even if you tune them real low. I wouldn't recommend them for someone who plays jazz or R and B or any type of music where the bass is so far in the background you're not sure if its there. They have a bright sound especially when your slapping them so they tend to stand out even in the middle of a full band. Use them wisely.

(More customer reviews)These are decent strings but the protective coating needs a protective coating. A good bit of the coating was worn off within hours of installing them. It is possible I didn't put them on carefully enough. Nonetheless, for the money I expected a more robustly constructed string.

They do have a decent sound for a coated string, so don't be afraid to buy them because you think they might sound dull.

(More customer reviews)I recently replaced DR Black Beauties (booo!) with Elixirs and am very happy I did. Elixir strings are easy on your fingers, last a really long time and sound great the whole time they're on your bass. Highly recommended if you care about tone. They are more expensive than other strings but their longevity more than makes up for the price hit. One minor issue I've experienced with these strings is that the coating does tend to flake off after a while, making them look a little "fuzzy" but the sound is not affected by this and it's purely cosmetic in my opinion. If you have the cash, get Elixirs!
