(More customer reviews)I've been playing with the Black Beauties exclusively for about 4 years.I used Hi-beams before that (which are also great, but not quite the same caliber).I believe that DR makes the best bass strings out there.I've tried everything: Rotosound, Dean Markley, Labella, Elixir...the list goes on but none compare to the BBs.They last forever and have an awesome crisp sound that makes for good, beefy and clear lows, and pronounced singing highs.I use them on my Warwick Thumb and am a customer for life.

(More customer reviews)Just got one of these today and I am in love. Without a doubt the nicest bass I have ever played and it has exceeded all of my expectations. It's the second MTD Kingston I've played and I have nothing but praise for these instruments. Incredibly beautiful and versatile. Truly amazing the wide range of tones these basses produce. I don't think you can find anything nicer in this price range.

(More customer reviews)I just got my Z Fretless and I LOVE IT! The tone is tight with a wonderful fretless "mwah". I particularly like the finish, which is gorgeous and does not show fingerprints. Since I am getting older I also like the fact that the Z is not very heavy.

(More customer reviews)While I may be a bit biased towards the fretless bass - this book is certainly very well done.Chris Jisi, from Bass Player, has assembled some of the most influential fretless players on the planet, to talk about technique, music, style, and technical aspects of fretless bass.The book is well organized, with some great information about music available, as well as who's playing what.

The book is rounded out by some great luthiers and builders discussing care & feeding of a proper fretless.

I also love the center section with some full page, and full color, Bass Player Magazine covers of great fretless players that have graced their pages.That's a very nice bonus.

If you are at all interested in fretless bass - this book is a keeper!

(More customer reviews)Bought these for my 5-string bass.Indeed, they do vastly reduce the noise from sliding--which I do a fair amount in my playing. They were fatter than the strings I was replacing, and didn't fit into the grooves in the nut on the head piece!I suspect this was MY error in size selection, not anything to do with the product per se. So, I moved the strings down one position (E fit into the low B, for example) and they fit.For the G, I just let my old string on (funny look, but I can live with it.)

Sound is darker. Indeed, not great for slapping (which I knew going in).
Final impressions:If you slide a fair amount, and you make sure you're getting the right sizes, these are fine.The sound will be a bit darker than the metal-wound non-flat types, but that may be fine with your style.
