D'Addario Chromatic Pedal Tuner Review

Great tuner - Heavy as Hell - Built like a tank - Leds and size of leds big enough to tune 30 feet away from the thing in good and bad lighting conditions - Brand name "Planet Waves" is really cool 'cause it's the title of a great Bob Dylan album recorded with The Band...............I've read reviews where people had noise complaints coming from the thing. So far it has been really noiseless to me and a couple of friends using the same one - Good for tuning bass to!........Better than Fender in construction and use for bass. Better than the classic Boss one in price and led size.

Seiko STX1 Chromatic Clip On Tuner Review

I purchased this tuner locally earlier this week.Amazon would have been cheaper but I couldn't find any reviews on the web and wanted to check it out carefully before I purchased it.I love it.It does everything it is advertised to do and does it well.It picks up the signal when you pluck a string and gives a good clear identification of the note everytime. When the green light comes on you are in tune.I did experiment with the high and low ends of the green light range and there was no noticeable change in sound nor was it noticeable when using a normal mic tuner along with the Seiko for comparison (change in light color on the Seiko versus needle movement on the Sabine).

When tuning with an ensemble, it does pick up the vibration in your guitar created by other instruments while you are idle but as soon as you pluck a string it immediately responds correctly to your guitar and doesn't seem to be affected by the other instruments.

I don't usually write reviews but because there is so little out there right now about this tuner I just wanted to share.Hope this is helpful.

Korg OT-120 Wide 8 Octave Chromatic Orchestral Tuner Review

Korg OT-120 Wide 8 Octave Chromatic Orchestral Tuner
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I purchased this for tuning my violin and piano, assuming it would do a great job on the violin (it does) but was wary of how it would work on the piano.I had been using a Peterson Virtual Stobe tuner for years, using standard piano-tuning techniques and equipment, and preferred tuning to a strobe rather than to a needle or LEDs.But battery leakage had put my VS out of commission. With the Peterson VS having its own imperfections, and a new one now running 3-4 times the cost of the Korg OT-120, I decided to give the Korg a try.(I also purchased the clip mike just in case its built-in mike balked at some of the overtones on my older piano.)I now use the Korg OT-120 regularly, not only to tune my piano and violin, but also as a practicing aid for the violin. It's very responsive and useful in verifying that I'm hitting pitch. After a few months of use I can say that the Korg OT-120 has exceeded my expectations for ease-of-use, value, and effectiveness for tuning my violin and piano, and for practice (strings). The tone generator is useful for ear training as well as for tuning. The display is smaller than I'm used to on the Peterson, but then again the Korg is much more portable. The clip microphone has come in handy for tuning some of the trickier strings at the lower and higher octaves, but I don't need to use it very often.Although I prefer the strobe for how it linearly visualizes pitch adjustment, it took less than half a tuning session to re-adapt to a needle/LED style display.Note:The Peterson has a larger number of tuning temperments than the Korg, so if you're tuning for early music make sure to review the temperments available on the Korg before buying.Nor can you store custom temperments on it.

Dual display provides both a needle-type meter and an LCD for excellent visibility.

Vertical Design and Superior Visibility
The Korg OT-120 chromatic band and orchestral tuner is intended for orchestral instruments, packing precise performance and sophisticated functionality in a vertical design that's easy to hold and operate. The Korg OT-120 features a dual-display, an easy-to-see needle-type indicator and a backlit LCD screen that shows the battery life, sound output level, calibration, as well as key and note name. Additional design features include a large dial that makes it easy to select the desired mode, soft-touch buttons and a rear-mounted stand that lets the band and orchestral tuner stand by itself. A sophisticated silver aluminum panel contributes to its sleek, new look.
Accurately Tune Orchestral Instruments Over a Wide Range
Since we developed the world's first meter-type tuner in 1975, the accuracy of Korg tuners has made them the choice of artists in all styles of music. With its wide tuning range extending from A0 to C8, the OT-120 lets you quickly tune any type of band instrument including, orchestra, wind, string, brass or piano. The Korg OT-120 also provides a wide range of calibration to support concert pitches in a range of 349-499 Hz (1 Hz steps).
Smooth and Precise Tuning
This band and orchestral tuner uses a high-precision needle-type meter to accurately indicate any pitch discrepancy. The speed at which the needle responds to the input can be changed over a range of three steps; you can choose fast, medium or slow speeds to match your tuning preference.
You can also choose from two tuning modes; Auto mode, which automatically detects the pitch of a single note you play on your instrument, or Manual mode, which lets you specify the desired note name. In Manual mode, the needle movement is shown in a range of 50 cents, letting you view the tuning discrepancy over a wide range. In addition to the excellent visibility unique to a needle-type meter, the LEDs located below the meter also indicate pitch deviation or a perfect match, making precise tuning easy even in dim locations.
Sound Back Mode for Tuning String or Wind Instruments
The OT-120 produces a reference tone in a five-octave range extending from C2 (65.41 Hz) to C7 (2093 Hz). You can switch the output level in two stages. The large speaker allows for more volume while not being obstructed even when using the stand, ensuring that the reference tone is clearly audible.
The OT-120 also provides Korg's proprietary Sound Back mode. This mode lets you connect an optional CM-100L contact microphone to the input jack, and automatically make the OT-120's speaker produce a reference tone for the note that is closest to the input pitch you play on your instrument. The meter will also indicate the input pitch, letting you tune using your eyes as well as your ears for greater accuracy--and also providing a great way to train your sense of pitch.
Support for Transposing Instruments and Historical Temperaments
For conveniently tuning any wind instrument, twelve types of transposing keys are provided in this band and orchestral tuner, including both sharps and flats. The Multi Temperament function provides eight presets that cover the most popular historical temperaments often used with period instruments. These are also ideal for checking unique temperaments used in classical music.
Long Battery Life
The OT-120 is designed for an extended battery life of approximately 100 hours when running on two AAA batteries. It can also be used with an AC adaptor (sold separately).
Soft Case Included
A durable, suede-tone soft case is included. Korg band and orchestral tuners purchased from a Korg USA authorized dealer now have a three year warranty.

Korg LCA-120 Focus Tune Chromatic Tuner with Large Backlit LCD

This tuner is no longer in production, but it is rather new in the line.It is compact and light. The features are outstanding.I have tuned pianos for 43 years...and this is one of the better tuners I have usef in the electronic line. There are just too many good features to list. The only thing I don't like, is that because it is so lightweight, it does not like to stay in one place on a piano with a DC adpator and an earphone attached. But that can be overcome.I would also recomnemd buying an external microphone...and an external contact microphone for tuning most all instruments. It is amazing how electronics get so much cheaper, and with more features in each generation.

Product Description:
The Korg LCA120 digital chromatic tuner works great for both rehearsal and the stage. The LCA120 features an extra large backlit LCD display for excellent visibility. The focus tune function gives you even more accurate tuning within +/-10 cents. The Korg LCA120 will even allow you to specify the tuning pitch for each note making this tuner easily customizable.

Flip open the LCA120 for easy, accurate tuning.
An extra large backlit LCD offers an easily visible meter area.
Easy-to-use, intuitive function buttons.
High-performance chromatic tuner with an extra large LCD
The LCA-120 features an extra large backlit LCD which offers an easily visible meter area, while the display contains convenient tuning functions for accurate tuning as well as numerous functions that are helpful for lessons.
The flip top design allows you to close the LCA-120 to protect the LCD, while also making the unit compact for convenient transport. Closing the tuner will also turn off the power automatically, preserving battery life. When tuning, the backlight will automatically turn on when sound is detected.
The function buttons are arranged with plenty of space for comfortable operation and easy access.
Wide detection range supports band and orchestra instruments
Since Korg developed the world's first needle-type tuner in 1975, it has been the trusted brand chosen by more than twenty million musicians. The LCA-120 precisely detects notes in a wide range of A0--C8 (88 notes) using Korg's sophisticated technology. The calibration is also adjustable over a broad range of A4=410--480 Hz (in 1Hz steps), supporting tuning of wind, string, and keyboard instruments used in orchestras or brass bands. In addition to the conventional detection method, you can choose from three different tuning methods as appropriate for your needs: Focus Tune, Sound Back, or Sound Out.
Focus Tune for even more precise tuning
Focus Tune mode allows even more precise tuning within a range of +/-10 cents. If you select this mode, the display meter will switch to indicate a +/-10 cent range when the note reaches +/-10 cents of the correct pitch. This allows the pitch difference to be shown over a finer range, facilitating final adjustments for more accurate tuning.
Korg's unique Sound Back feature is convenient for ear training
Korg's own Sound Back mode is a tuning method in which you can tune using the meter display together with a reference tone generated by the LCA-120. When using a contact mic (such as the optional CM-100L) connect your instrument to the input jack of the LCA-120; the built-in speaker will produce a reference tone that's closest to the pitch of your instrument, and the display will indicate the difference between your instrument's pitch and the reference tone. This lets you tune both visually and aurally for greater accuracy and efficiency.
Sound Out function using a reference tone
The LCA-120 contains a reference tone with a four-octave range of C2 (65.41 Hz)--C6 (1046.50 Hz). Since this allows you to tune while listening to a reference tone produced from the built-in speaker, its ideal when two or more musicians need to tune simultaneously. There's also a headphone jack with volume control, so you can tune through headphones or connect them to an external amplifier.
Indicator marks for pure major and minor thirds
You can obtain pure-sounding harmonies by slightly adjusting the pitch of major thirds or minor thirds relative to the equal tempered pitches. The LCA-120's meter scale provides marks to indicate the position of pure major and minor thirds relative to a given pitch, and by tuning to match these marks, you can obtain beautifully consonant harmonies in an ensemble situation. This is convenient not only for orchestral instruments, but also for vocal or a cappella practice.
The note you'll need to adjust when tuning to a pure major or minor third will depend on the music you're performing.
Programmable temperament
In addition to equal temperament, the LCA-120 gives you the option to program your own temperament. You can specify the desired pitch for each of the eighty-eight notes from A0 to C8, and recall a frequently-used temperament at a touch.
Sound Level Meter for practicing dynamics
The volume of your instrument is shown graphically in the Sound Level Meter as well as numerically (00--99). This provides a convenient way to practice maintaining a consistent volume, or to practice gradually increasing or decreasing your volume over a sustained note. The Sound Level Meter mode can be used simultaneously with the tuning functionality.
Memory backup function
Even when the LCA-120 is powered-off, its backup memory functionality will preserve the temperament program, mode setting, calibration, and other settings you make. (These settings are preserved even when you replace the batteries.)

This is a very fine tuner that allows you to tune any instrument, electronic or acoustical, "spot on."For the price I really didn't expect such a nice product. However, after reading about two minutes of instruction, I was accurately tuning my mandolin and guitar. It is very intuitive to use, is battery operated which makes it useful for on the road, and has has such practical features as auto turn off after non-use for 20 minutes so you don't kill your batteries should you forget to turn it off.

High-precision LCD meter and LEDs to indicate pitch deviation.

This hand held tuner is ideal for tuning even low-register notes containing numerous overtones that are often difficult to tune. A high-sensitivity microphone is built-in to this chromatic tuner, allowing easy and accurate tuning of acoustic instruments such as ukuleles. A separately sold CM-100 contact microphone can also be used to send the vibrations directly to the tuner for even more accurate tuning.
Ultra-compact body with a "Tilt Slit"
Although the CA-30 is small, thin, and light, don't let its pocket-sized body fool you. The CA-30 chromatic tuner packs the functionality needed for tuning a wide range of instruments. From studio to stage, tuning is easy and convenient. The back of the unit includes a unique arc-shaped "tilt slit" that lets you insert a plastic card for use as a handy stand.

In addition to visual tuning via meter, the Korg CA-30 can play reference pitches from its internal speaker (Sound Out) for tuning by ear. Each press of the Sound switch will cycle through the A4-Bb4 notes, commonly used for tuning wind instruments. Alternatively, you can hold down the Sound switch to change the cycle to the semitone intervals from C4 through C5 (one octave), allowing reference pitches for any instrument to be sounded quickly.
Adjustable Calibration
The Calibration function (410-480 Hz) of this chromatic tuner supports a wide range of standard pitches, and can be adjusted in 1 Hz steps for accurate and flexible tuning to any song or key. (However, these settings will be initialized when the batteries are replaced.)
Auto Power Off Function
The power will turn off automatically if the unit is left powered-on for 20 minutes without performing any operation, avoiding unnecessary battery consumption.
Approximately 100 hours of Continuous Use Low-power consumption design allows an amazing 100 hours (approximate) of continuous battery life (A4 continuous input, meter mode, zinc-carbon batteries).

I'm new to guitar playing and bought this to help tune my guitar. The additional features were a plus that pushed me to buy this particular model. For aprx. $30 dollars getting a 5000 chord dictionary, a metronome and tuner was a good deal. The tuner works effectively and I've checked it against other tuners and it does a good job.The backlighting is good but you need to hold the device at the right angle to see what is displayed. The instructions aren't great but you'll get the hang of the buttons by reading what is offered. The metronome works well and helps you keep the beat or practice keeping the beat. The overall workmanship is ok but could be a bit tougher. The buttons feel firm and responsive.Overall, I'm satisified.

I have used this tuner in many different places and ways, from tuning classical nylon string guitars using the built in mic to plugging in a guitar chord from acoustic electric (NYLON string) through regular metal string electrics (recommended using input jack in noisy situations without hiding in silence somewhere- often hard to do).

The fact that this tuner uses little lights instead of a phoney needle meter done with LED displays makes it much more useful in low light siturations and very easy to read. When it hits green you are in tune. If you want to tune down or up a step, no problem either. Just watch the little lights.

All around an excellent tuner for both bass and guitar, very versatile and as much as you would want to spend. It is very durable and has taken more than its share of hard living.Highly recommended.

Korg MA-30 Ultra Compact Digital Metronome Review

Korg MA-30 Ultra Compact Digital Metronome
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This is chock full of features and hands-down the best budget portable metronome on the market, with only one caveat which'll be mentioned later.A terrific buy for students.

Battery life is great, getting around 200 hours out of two AAs.The display is clear and easy to read.I've dropped it once and it didn't cause any problems. For a digital metronome, the beep isn't an irritating chirp as some other metronomes tend to be.

It can generate any tone on the chromatic scale for manual tuning, and even allows you to adjust the pitch slightly away from A440 if you need to (sometimes necessary, especially for wind players playing outdoors in the extreme cold)

It can handle 1 - 7 beats per measure, and can give you triplets, 8ths or 16th notes on top of that.

It has a handy tap feature to determine tempo.

This isn't perfect, it's not a Dr. Beat (the best metronome on the market, period). The volume control is very sensitive, and if you have it in your pocket you can easily accidentally blast your ears with headphones on.An LED would be a nice addition.

The caveat mentioned earlier is this:Most people prefer a dial to adjust tempo as opposed to the up and down buttons of this model (The Matrix MR500, MR800 and the Seiko SQ50 have less features and lack a volume control, but do have a dial and LED).Still, for the price and the features, you can't beat it.

this tuner seems to be a little touchy and inconsistent as far as quick accurate tuning is concerned.this is in terms of when the green display lights up instead of the red. the green lights up when you're in the neighborhood, not just when you are Right On the note.i would prefer it were more discriminating about when it gives you "the green light".but it is an inexpensive tuner, so maybe it's just the "you get what you pay for" maxim. if i had it to do over again, i would probably keep looking ...

I can also plug the PX5D into my PC via a USB port and quickly edit the user settings for sounds and also program rhythm chains easily. Intuitive four-way cursor control.
Big for Its Size
Despite its compact size, the Pandora PX5D is laid out with game-controller efficiency--so you can spend more time playing and less time wishing you were already playing! Modern and up to date, the PX5D serves double duty as a stereo USB audio interface, allowing you convenient access to audio recording software on your computer.
High-Quality "REMS" Based Effects
Korg's "REMS" Modeling Technology has been widely acclaimed for its natural, authentic sound quality. A total of 180 effect types are available in the Pandora PX5, divided into seven categories that match the seven effect modules that are simultaneously available.

    Dynamics
This section includes everything from simple compression to advanced algorithms that can emulate a humbucking sound from a single coil pickup (or vice-versa); transform an electric guitar into an acoustic timbre, add a fretless character to any bass sound; plus a series of wahs and auto-wahs.
    AMP Modeling
In addition to some of the most popular and widely recorded amps, the PX5D multi-effects processor includes a number of rare and boutique amplifier models--everything from the ubiquitous VOX AC30 to a US Hi-Gain (think snakeskin) amp. A total of 15 guitar amps and 11 bass amps are all delivered with spot-on accuracy. Bass synth and Guitar Synth models are also featured in the PX5D.
    Cabinet Simulations
Matching the right amp to the right cabinet is a necessity for capturing a classic tone. But go ahead and mix and match to build your own custom "virtual" rig. From a single 8" tweed to a 4 x 15" mammoth, the PX5d has it all.
    Modulation Effects
You name it, Pandora has it--phasers, flangers, choruses, filter sweeps, U-Vibes, tremolos, intelligent pitch shifting, rotary speaker, auto-panning. Best of all, each effect can be tweaked to your own personal preference.
    Delay Settings
Five Delay effects--each with five variations relating to feedback amount--are available in this Pandora PX5D multi-effects processor. Delay time is conveniently set using the Tap key on the front panel and a versatile Reverse Delay is onboard.
    Reverbs
Eleven Reverb algorithms place the final ambience and sheen on your sound.
    Noise Reduction
Keep your sound clean--and silent in between songs.

100 Presets, 100 user programs
Seventy Guitar Presets and Thirty Bass Presets are ready and waiting to get you started with your new Korg PX5D. For those who like to make their sound their own, 100 User Program location are available for storing your custom settings. Using the Software Editor Librarian provides faster, graphic editing and allows you to build up libraries of custom patches. A simple USB cable provides the connection to your computer.
Clean panel design for intuitive control
With almost gamer styling, the PX5D is an easy-to-operate multi-effects processor. A four-way cursor to the left and a recessed dial to the right combine for easy navigation of the backlit LCD screen. For the amplifier traditionalist, dedicated thumb wheels across the top offer real-time control of Gain, Bass, Treble and Volume. Four Program Memory buttons keep your favorite programs close at hand! An adapter cable is included, allowing two optional footswitches to be connected to the PX5D for hands-free operation.
Drummer and bassist included
128 accurate and professional Rhythm & Bass groove patterns are built in to your Korg PX5D--including simple "click-track" style metronome beats. The Rhythm patterns have three variations, so you can find the one you like. Use the Tap key to set the tempo to anything from 40 to 240 Beats per Minute (BPM). Both Major and Minor bass lines are included with each groove, and you can set the Bass Key to any note. Up to sixteen patterns can be strung together into one of twenty chains--an excellent feature for writing a new tune, practicing a part or crafting that killer solo--in context!
The world outside
Connect an MP3 player, CD, USB or other external audio source to the AUX IN jack and you can play along. Wrong key? Use the Key Transpose function to change the pitch of the song into any musical key. For the bassist, the PX5D multi-effects processor also contains a Bass Cancelling function that removes the bass sound from an external audio source so that you can play and hear your bass along with the song.
Repeat as necessary
Phrase Training is a fun feature for learning difficult material or for working on solos. You can record up to 80 seconds of audio from any external source and play it back repeatedly (looped) at a slower speed--without changing the pitch. This is a great way to learn complex or rapid passages by ear, since you will be able to hear the phrase slowly. You can also record yourself chording along with the built-in rhythm and bass accompaniment, and then practice your soloing skills.
Digital USB doorway
In its off hours, the Pandora PX5D moonlights as USB audio interface for all your computer needs, offering two-channel audio communication to and from your Mac or PC.

Korg Pitchblack True Bypass Chromatic Tuner Pedal with 4 Display Modes Review

Korg Pitchblack True Bypass Chromatic Tuner Pedal with 4 Display Modes
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Bought this Korg after losing a prior tuner after many years of gigging.Researched on several on-line boards and alot of guys recommended.Wanted something easy to use on a dark stage, tough, and not too expensive. This fits the bill: am satisfied after several months of use.The bright, highly visible read-out cannot be missed or misunderstood. That's what you want tuning in a hurry, on cluttered, dark stages. The unit is happy living in a jumbled gig bag.Battery lasts a long time.Leave your guitar plugged in (bypass) during a set, or simply keep the unit on your amp to use in-between sets.My bass player used it recently too with no problem.Expect to have this for years.

Chromatic Pedal Tuner With Large LED Display
High precision, advanced functionality and sleek style make this new guitar/bass pedal tuner from Korg their most advanced yet. The Korg Pitchblack is the same size as a compact effect unit, and features a tough aluminum die-cast body that will endure hard use on the road or in the studio. While small in size, this strobe tuner boasts a large; easy to read LED meter with a light-emitting surface for excellent visibility in any setting from daylight, to stage light and to no light at all, as well as an extremely smooth eleven-segment LED meter that allows accurate visual tuning from any angle. With a red LED that indicates the tuner's on/off status, a large note name display, and a tuning guide that indicates whether your instrument is sharp or flat, you'll always be able to tune quickly and accurately in any situation. The Pitchblack provides a tuning range of E0 (20.60 Hz) to C8 (4,186 Hz), and adjustable calibration between 436 -- 445 Hz.
Strobe Tuner With Four Display Modes
The Korg Pitchblack's LED meter can be switched between four display modes including: Meter mode, Full Strobe mode, Half Strobe mode and Mirror mode.

    Meter mode
Similar to using a needle meter, tune your instrument with this pedal tuner so that the green LED in the center of the LED display lights and both tuning guide LED's are lit. The tuning LED's will be to the right of center if your instrument is sharp, and to the left of the center if it is flat.

    Full Strobe mode
Using this pedal tuner, tune your instrument so that the LED meters stop streaming and both tuning guide LED's are lit. The LED meters will stream from left to right if your instrument is sharp and from right to left if it is flat.

    Half Strobe mode
Tune your instrument so that the LED meters stop streaming and only the green LED in the center is lit and both tuning guide LEDs are lit. The LED meters will stream to the right of center if your instrument is sharp, and to the left of center if it is flat. When the pitch is correct, only the center LED will be lit.

    Mirror mode
Tune your instrument with this pedal tuner so that the two LEDs on the left and right sides of the center LED meet in the middle and both tuning guide LED's are lit. The pitch lit LEDs will spread farther apart the more your instrument is out of tune. The left tuning guide will light if your instrument is flat, and the right tuning guide will light if it is sharp.

100% True Bypass output keeps your tone intact.
The Pitchblack mutes the input signal for silent tuning, and when you're not tuning, the input is passed directly to the output jack without being affected by any circuitry (True Bypass). Therefore, even if you connect the pedal tuner between several of your favorite pedals, the signal will pass without going through the internal buffer amp, ensuring that the sounds you've created using your effects will not be colored in any way. The Pitchblack is designed to coexist transparently with other effect pedals.
A perfect fit in your pedal board plus the DC output powers other pedals.
The Pitchblack is designed to fit conveniently into your pedal board system. This pedal tuner provides a DC OUT jack that can supply power to other effect pedals when the optional AC adaptor is used. By connecting optional DC cables, you can supply up to 200 mA of power to multiple effect pedals, simplifying the power connections in your pedal board.
Three-Year Warranty
Korg pedal tuners purchased from a Korg USA authorized dealer now have a three year warranty.

Korg TM-40 Large Display Digital Tuner and Metronome Review

Korg TM-40 Large Display Digital Tuner and Metronome
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This tuner/metronome is very well built and has a 12 note refrence. It works very well with my violin and I carry it with me to class and when I practice. The metronome has a loud beat. The tuner is loud so you can hear it over what you are playing. It has a large screen and is very easy to use. I recommend this to anyone that plays a string instrument.
