(More customer reviews)I'm primarily a rhythm guitar player at church, but fill in on bass when needed. I borrowed basses prior to buying this one and have played several different models. That said, this is the second best bass I have ever played coming in right behind a modded Peavey Millenium 5ver that was old and USA made.

The Pros:
This thing thunders! The B-string is tight and has great resonance and/or punch depending on your tone selection. The dual active humbuckers take 2 9 volts to power them and they have a decent range to them. They are EMG pickups, so they have their own sound. When I can afford it, I will likely replace those with some hotter Seymour Duncan HBs. The EQ on the guitar has fantastic range and three bands. There is a knob for bass, mids, and treble. All knobs are nice heavy textured brass looking things with a detent so you can tell where "unity" is. The volume knob lacks the detent, but who would want that? The finish has no hard coating which I count as a pro. I believe this allows the wood to resonate more than if you lacquered it up. Some folks think this is a con because it is definitely easier to damage the instrument. Lastly, the instrument is simply gorgeous. The woods are beautiful, and the neck-thru construction is striking.

The Cons:
Good Lord this thing is HEAVY! I usually gig for no more than an hour and it's not pleasant afterwards. I know I know, this is why it sounds so good, I just needed something to whine about. Truly if I have to give it any cons I would say maybe adding a string-thru bridge vs the hardtail MIGHT increase sustain. I say might because this instrument seems to be able to hold any note for well over a minute as is. The pickups don't really "pop" when you slap it, but that's EMGs IMHO.

I paid about $300 for this thing and think that was a steal. I see they retail for $700-$800 and are probably worth every penny. When I was shopping I played everything and had decided to either get a Warwick Corvette RockBass or the new Music Man ripoff, Sterling I think it is. I played this dude though and it was over. This is a fantastic instrument that's well worth the asking price.

(More customer reviews)I had searched for a bass for a long time. I wanted to find something that could replace my Yamaha rbx374 (not recommended). I had read countless reviews and played many basses in stores, none of the them were just right. Finally I found a Shecter custom edition. I liked how it played and sounded, but it was a five string. So i looked around online, and found this excellent bass. It had good reviews, and looked wonderful. I took a risk and bought it without playing it first, but fortunately, there was no problem with this bass.

The playability of this bass is amazing. There are no frets that buzz, and the neck is very smooth and fast. All of the tuning pegs turn easily, and stay tuned for a long time. The EMG-HZ give the Shecter an amazing tone. It is warm and syrupy, while still being full and punchy. The tone knobs are great, they are very secure and turn easily, and allow you to get many diverse tones. The build quality is excellent. All the hardware stays firmly in place, and none of it feels cheap. The neck-thru design give it a very long sustain. I have timed an open E note to last over two minutes, before it just turned to static.

I keep flat wound strings on it, so I can not slapvery well. However, when there are round's on it, this bass can slap wonderfully. The strings and pickups seem to be placed in perfect position for perfect slap. I have one warning, not a complaint, this bass is a bit on the heavy side. It can get tiring after holding it up for a while. The mahogany wood is very dense and heavy.

Do the looks really need a review? The satin finish matches the golden hardware perfectly. There is not much I can say about the wonderful looks that the picture above does not. The Shecter Stilleto Studio 4 certainly plays, sounds, and looks better than the price that it is selling for. I highly recomend this bass to any player who needs one. Whether you are already a great player, and just want another bass to play with. Whether you are a new bassist, and want something cheap to start out on. This excellent bass will not disappoint anyone.

(More customer reviews)Can't say enuf about these strings. I am a professional musician, work 3 plus days a week, four hours a nite, been using these strings for over five years. You either love them or hate them. They never sound as good as a true bronze string does when new..... but then they outlast a set of bronze strings 3 to one. They sound very good. Sound the same until they die...you know when they die.
