(More customer reviews)There are many aspects of musicianship that "go without saying".We don't talk about them, so growth occurs slowly (if at all).We can flounder for decades without ever becoming great players, never questioning why.

Victor and Anthony break these elements of music down in a very logical manner, allowing us as musicians to take a sober look at what we actually know and don't know.This can be a very shocking reality check, but it's also very inspiring.

The content is best suited for good bass players who want to grow into great bass players, but it is also applicable to beginning and intermediate bass players, and to musicians in general.Some exercises are strictly for bass players, but this video teaches music as a whole.

You won't learn how to play the VWB's funk-infused jazz from this series of lessons, but you will learn something more valuable -- how to make whatever you do more musical.

Victor's approach to learning music is unusual, but it's not radical.He does not attempt to replace the classic methods, but to supplement them.I would be skeptical if his teaching methods were radical, but they are simply based on observation of how music really works.

Randy Jackson- Master Groove (2008) Review

(More customer reviews)This is a really good video for learning to groove on the bass. I wouldn't say that this is a beginning bass video. He assumes that you have some fundamental knowledge of chords, licks, riffs, music styles, and basic time keeping. This is a great video for learning how to play groves in a variety of different styles. He is basically telling you how all the fancy licks in the world won't do anything for you if you can't hold down basic grooves. This video taught me how to really listen to the drummer and play off of what the drummer is doing. It has made me a much better player. I think in terms of grooves instead of just phrases when I play now. This video is highly recommended if you already know the fundamentals of bass, and want to become your own kind of bass player instead of merely an imitator.

John Entwistle: Bass Guitar Master Class (2006) Review

(More customer reviews)I'd like to say this DVD made all the difference in my playing, but I'd have to be John Entwistle to figure it all out.The DVD is great because it is an archive of the creative process of a lost musical genius.Getting past the few practicable tricks, there's some of John's musical philosophies saved for future generations.I know it sounds silly, but imagine having Hendrix sit down and dissect his playing, or Mozart discuss his thoughts on composition with someone who asks the questions you would.

Its also amazing how video production has changes over the past 20 years.The picture is good, but you can see the improvements in cameras and tapes.

If you follow Tony's advice to practicing you will build the strength in your fingers and coordination to play in a band sooner than later. The DVD includes a password so you can download and print the warm up exercise sheet at the icons of rock site. I keep mine in my case.
