UPDATE: Pile of crap. One of the latches and one of the bottom pegs broke on the first flight I took this on. That said, my bass was safe inside, so I guess it did its job, hence, lower my review only to a 2. Still, inset latches would've been better and better bottom pegs, I guess. I'm going to try and mod it for inset latches, but the ABS plastic will likely make this impossible. Manufacturers must hate bass players and like to feed us garbage.

I've had a DOOZY of a time finding cases for my BC Rich basses. I have two Ironbirds and one Warlock, all made before BC Rich was reorganized as a company (two NJ Series bolt-ons and one American made).

I was pretty excited when I saw they started making decently priced bass cases again, because these damn things with all their points that make them look so cool are IMPOSSIBLE to fit in any standard cases. I've had two cases for three bases that have begun to decay after so many tours, and the cases weren't that sturdy to begin with. One of those coffin cases might fit my Warlock, but they feel incredibly flimsy and I don't trust cases that aren't square for travel. Also, even though I play death metal, I think those coffin cases are incredibly retarded looking goth crap.

I had to order the BCMBC1 case with sparse information and no reviews as no store seems to keep it in stock to check out personally. It's amazing how little information the online retailers, Guitar Center, or even the BC Rich website have on this thing. No dimensions were available, and I read varying information on whether or not it fit Beasts, Ironbirds, and / or Warlocks. Hell, the above product description (as I write this) doesn't even mention the Warlock (which it does fit), or any kind of dimensions. What the hell? Call the manufacturer and just get this info if you want to SELL anything, okay?

After receiving the case, I'm a tad disappointed. It doesn't fit my Ironbirds at all. I guess this is because BC Rich no longer MAKES Ironbird basses. I was afraid it wouldn't fit my Warlock, either, seeing as how BC Rich's new Warlock basses have slightly smaller bodies (which I'm pretty sure are just cheap guitar bodies, so as to lower costs). Lo and behold, my old Warlock fit!

The case itself seems sturdy, the handle is comfortable, and with just the bass, it's well balanced. It's got space for cords or pedals, but no separate lid for this compartment. The main lid encloses this area. The ABS shell seems durable, but I haven't traveled with this case yet. Time will tell.

There is a lock on one of the clasps and two keys were included. This is pointless, unless BC Rich is going to up the ante and install only TSA approved locks (as SKB has started doing). I will not be allowed to lock this thing when checking it as luggage, nor can I add a clasp for a TSA approved lock without damaging the plastic shell. TSA approved locks on instrument cases only, please!

The way the neck is cut into the padding, it seems it would be impossible to custom cut this for my Ironbirds. So, please note... this DOES NOT FIT IRONBIRDS! This is contrary to the descriptions I read on a few retailer sites. Even though the case is long enough, they way it's been cut makes it difficult or impossible to fit an Ironbird in without just replacing the whole interior. This is a major disappointment with this product... why not just make it fit ALL the basses BC Rich has made? My old cases do. Seems to be a stupid design flaw, rendering part of a potential customer base null and void.

I'm going to keep this case for my Warlock, though I'm not 100% happy about that. My poor Ironbirds are still without a decent home, and I would've bought more of these cases had they fit. I may try ordering the BCMBC2, with option to return, because the interior looks a bit different. Who knows, as there's no good information on that case either!

I'm going to try and make catalog update suggestions to Amazon. But since this sloppy retailer has not rendered his / her information well, here's the final scoop in my review:
ABS black case
Fits Warlock and Beast basses ONLY
6" x 20" x 55"
15 lbs.
